Hartley Marine
Service is a Maine based corporation providing marine transportation and related services
world wide.
Specializing in dry
bulk transportation Hartley Marine Service has successfully assisted a long list of
clients with custom tailored services and solutions.
Our years working
in the PL-480 has permitted us to develop expertise in streamlining port and discharge
operations, where little and sometimes no facilities exist.
At one time or
another we have provided contractual port captain services to the majority of the large
dry bulk tug and barge operators.
While providing
port captain services our duties would typically include preparing all stability and trim
calculations for National Cargo Bureau, arranging and coordination of all hold cleaning
and inspections with Federal Grain Inspection Service, as well as supervision of all
loading and discharge operations and the coordination of Same with terminals, stevedores
and suppliers.
Our extensive
exposure to different vessels and cargo handling systems has resulted in a good working
knowledge of each type and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
In 1995 we assisted
a local cement manufacturer with the acquisition and design and refit of a 4,000 ton self
loading/self discharging barge.
We presently
operate this vessel on contract for the owners while also providing the towing with one of
our three tugs.
Our innovative
approach to help alleviate berth congestion resulted in Hartley Marine Service being
awarded the Outstanding Service Award at the 1996 NEPCO Coal Conference.
I feel my 20 years
in the industry supplemented by that of my other port captains puts Hartley Marine Service
in a position to provide superior custom tailored services to any clients requiring marine
transportation.
